If you are in need of dental implants, you have come to the right place. At Dr. Steve Kim DDS, we offer implant prosthodontics to replace any missing teeth. Our dental procedures will create a beautiful smile that you can be proud to show off whether day or night.
Many patients who are missing teeth are self-conscious about the way their smile looks and they will often avoid smiling when in public to prevent any humiliation. Dr. Kim does not believe that this is a way to live and that is why he specializes in implant prosthodontics.

Why Dental Implants?
Dental implants are used to replace missing teeth in your mouth and they replace the root that was one there. If you do not have any root in your jaw, you will lose some bone mass and you may experience some shrinkage of your jaw or facial appearance.
To prevent this from happening, implants are placed where you once had a tooth root to save the structure of your jaw bone and prohibit bone loss.
If you are unfamiliar with what dental implants are, they are small titanium posts that are surgically implanted into your jaw bone through a dental procedure. Once they are in place, you will require a healing period of up to six months, sometimes more or less depending on your progress.
Once the jaw bone is fully healed, crowns are affixed to the posts to provide you with a lovely smile. You can have one or multiple implants placed, which makes them a convenient option for many.
Patients choose to have dental implants for a number of different reasons, but the most common reasons include:
- Preference over dentures
- Better oral health
- Improved speech and feel
- Boost of confidence
- Improved look of teeth
- Long-lasting and durable
- Better view of self
- Easy to maintain
- Do not interrupt lifestyle
Bone Loss and How It’s Handled
If you have been missing teeth for a while, then you may have been told that you are missing bone in your jaw. What this means is that because there was no root in your jaw bone, shrinkage occurred, which is common when there is no root.
To combat this, you may need to undergo a procedure known as bone grafting. What this procedure does is it injects bone matter into the pockets where you are missing any bone. Once the material is in place, the idea is that your body will accept it and begin to produce bone on its own, thus closing in the gaps.
Once a bone graft is successful and fully healed, the implant procedure can take place. Many times, patients will need to have a sinus lift performed, which is essentially the bone graft, but it involves moving your sinuses to allow for replacement of bone material to promote growth.
Will My Dental Implants Be Successful?
In most cases, yes. Dental implants have a 98 percent success rate when they are completed correctly and placed in a jaw that has enough bone. These posts are permanent structures in your mouth and will not fall out or move.
Sometimes, problems can arise where the implant does not maintain its place, but this is a rare occurrence and should not be expected.
Your Dental Implant Consultation
If you are interested in dental implants, you will need to come in for a consultation with Dr. Kim. While you are here, we will take x-rays of your mouth and you will have an exam performed. Once Dr. Kim has had a chance to look at your x-rays and teeth, he will then propose a treatment plan for you.
Sometimes, patients who still have some of their teeth or are only missing a couple teeth will need to undergo additional procedures before the implants can be placed. For example, if you need to have a couple of implants, but you have dental decay on one or more of your teeth, the cavities will need to be filled first. Same goes for gum disease and any other like problems.
Once it is determined you are ready for dental implants, Dr. Kim will sit down and go over the entire procedure with you. We recommend that you ask questions and engage in a conversation about the procedure including risks, after care, and what to expect.
Dr. Kim is always here for his patients and will provide you with the time and attention you need to have all of your questions and concerns addressed.
Is the Procedure
When patients hear the word implant or they hear oral surgery, they instantly think that the procedure is going to hurt or it is going to cause them pain. Fortunately, the dental implant procedure is not painful and many patients believe that it is equivalent, if not better than, a simple tooth extraction.
Of course, once the procedure is completed, you may feel some mild discomfort or sensitivity in your mouth, but this will subside with time and will go away with over the counter pain relievers.
Maintain Your Dental Implants
Even though crowns are placed on your dental implant posts, you cannot just simply neglect them and not take care of them. It is important that you continue to brush and floss your implants like normal.
One of the things that you need to keep an eye on is your gums. You can still get gum disease with dental implants and this can affect your overall health.
Regular dental checkups are also recommended and Dr. Kim will likely see you twice a year to see how you are doing.

Richard SHorrible Dentist Avoid Kristen kimShe did all my teeth bad on purpose. If you think this is okay go ahead and have her practice on you too.She was taking off a crown and in the process twisted the temp crown instead of taking it directly out. We heard a loud crack and she smile I let her know my teeth was now pulsating. This seemed to make her and the nurse very happy. I will post the pictures of the crowns if they fall off Or the tooth is indeed cracked. I still am going to sue
