Are dental implants a good choice for you?
Dr. Kim’s patients often ask if dental implants are the right choice for them. Below, we will present you with three questions to ask yourself to give you a better idea.
1) Do you want a smile that makes you proud?
Dental implants that are placed into your mouth by an experienced implantologist will not move or shift around and they will provide you with the confidence you need to talk and eat without worry. Dentures often move around in the mouth and can make it difficult to talk and eat while leaving you with a bit of a self-conscious feeling.
2) Do you want a smile that is natural?
Dental implants are the closest thing to a natural tooth. They fit, feel, and function like one, especially when they are placed in your mouth by an experienced dentist. Other tooth replacement options can make it difficult to have a natural experience as they may move and limit your ability to feel comfortable with them.
3) Do you want a smile that is hassle free?
Dental implants are a wonderful choice for most patients because they allow you to enjoy the foods that you love, you can brush normally, and you will have a natural bite. Other tooth replacement options can restrict these things and may not feel as hassle-free as you thought.
If you answered yes to one of or all the questions above, then dental implants may be the right choice for you and your situation. Dental implants are a great choice for many patients and when you come into Steve S. Kim, DDS, we can go over all your options for you and tell you more about the implants.
What will dental implants cost me?
This is a question that can be tricky to answer because the truth is, it depends. There is no one plan or one treatment that works for everyone and the cost will vary because you may have work that needs to be done or appointments to attend. Unlike other tooth replacement options available, dental implants are customized to your mouth and your mouth alone.
With the above in mind, the cost of dental implants is comparable to that of other tooth replacement options. Dental implants are customized, and they are meant to last you an entire lifetime, so they make a great investment for patients. When it comes time for you to talk about and seek out dental implants, you want to work with someone who is an experienced implant dentist, such as Dr. Kim.
It is very possible that other tooth replacement options will have a much lower cost, and this may be enticing to you. While these other options are lower at first, their lifetime care is equal to or greater than that of dental implants. For example, dentures are cheaper initially, but you need to replace them, buy the solution to clean them, buy a case for them, and more. The extra needed accessories really add up.
The average cost of a single tooth dental implant is somewhere between $3,000 and $4,500. While it seems like a lot at first, remember, this is an average. Dr. Kim will speak with you about pricing and we run several specials, offer discounts, and more to help you pay for your dental implants. If you would like to learn more about any specials or offers, call Steve S. Kim, DDS today.
One thing that you may be thinking about doing is choose dental implants from companies who offer them for cheap. While it sounds like a good idea, it is not. No dental implants are cheap, and it is important that you work only with a well-qualified dentist to place them. You should take time to ask your dentist about the procedure and their credentials too.
The team at Steve S. Kim, DDS wants to warn you to be on the look out for companies that quote you for the cost of implants BEFORE they see your teeth. This is just impossible to do. When you come into our Torrance office, you will receive a comprehensive exam and we will tell you the cost and timeframe to completion too.
Can I expect insurance to pay for my dental implants?
Some dental insurances do pay for dental implants while others do not. We can help you check your coverage for you. If you find out that your insurance does not cover them, you can ask them to provide you with an allowance in the amount equal to a similar tooth replacement option. In addition, Steve S. Kim, DDS offers payment plans, discounts, and financing to help you afford the dental treatment you need.
Who should perform my dental implant procedure?
It is imperative that you ONLY work with a dentist who is licensed, experienced, and trained to place dental implants. Dr. Kim has all the credentials to provide you with the best dental care and a customized approach to treatment.
How long does it take to restore a tooth with a dental implant?
It depends. Once you have had an initial exam and evaluation, you will receive a treatment plan from Dr. Kim. This plan will breakdown the cost of treatment and the estimated time to complete the dental work. Your treatment time will also depend on whether you need to have additional restorations completed prior to the dental implant procedure.
To ensure that your smile remains strong and beautiful, you may need multiple appointments at Steve S. Kim, DDS. The amount of time from the start of the procedure to completion could be a couple of months up to a year. Patients who receive treatment can return home and continue their social activities as they would any other time.
What are some of the risks associated with dental implants?
Dental implants are both safe and effective. They are considered one of the most predictable procedures that can be performed within the dental industry. There are some complications that may arise, but they are not considered to be normal. These risks are more common in individuals who smoke.
Some of the most common risks include sinus problems, nerve damage, infection, damage to the teeth or tooth roots, fractures, tingling or numbness, implant failure, and the inability to place the implants in the mouth due to a lack of bone.
If you are worried about any of these risks, it is important to speak with Steve S. Kim, DDS about them. We will check your mouth and jawbone to ensure the procedure can be completed and provide you with a breakdown of procedures that need to be performed beforehand, if there are any.
Do dental implants hurt?
When you think of dental implants or hear the words oral surgery, you may instantly think that the procedure will hurt. This is not always the case. In fact, you will likely only experience some slight discomfort and bruising once the procedure is completed. Many patients who have dental implants placed are quite surprised to learn that it does not hurt like they thought it would.
Most patients can return to their normal activities the next day once the procedure is done and in between their appointments.
While my crown is made, is there an option for me to receive teeth?
Many patients worry that they will be without teeth for a long time. While most patients do not receive teeth until the crowns are made, there are situations where you may need to receive teeth before that point. Patients who work in jobs outside of the home or those individuals who need to speak with the public will benefit from temporary teeth while the crowns are made.
At Steve S. Kim, DDS, we do offer temporary teeth and you can receive these temps while the crown is being fabricated. You may have heard of this as same-day teeth. If you would like to learn more about these temporary teeth, it is important that you speak with Dr. Kim. Not all patients can receive them, so it is best to schedule a consultation and speak with the dentist.
If you have any questions about dental implants, whether you are a good candidate, or when the procedure can start, call Steve S. Kim, DDS today. We offer in-house consultations right here in Torrance, CA.
