Are you proud to show off your smile in public? Do you smile freely without blocking your teeth? If not, then you need to come in for a cosmetic dental consultation today with Dr. Steve Kim.
Cosmetic dentistry is one of the most popular forms of dentistry and many patients choose to undergo the procedures. Often, cosmetic dentistry is not a required procedure, but one that will help improve the look of your smile.
For example, if your teeth are stained, you may want to have teeth whitening performed. In this case, the whitening is not necessary, but cosmetic. The same goes for dental implants, veneers, and similar.
What Is Cosmetic Dentistry Exactly?
Cosmetic dentistry is a type of dentistry specialization that involves perfecting a patients’ teeth and smile. This form of dentistry focuses on the way the teeth look, function, and their health overall.
Any type of procedure that will enhance your smile or the appearance of your teeth is considered cosmetic.
Benefits of Cosmetic Dentistry
There are a number of benefits to cosmetic dentistry with the most obvious being that it improves the way your teeth look.
You will also receive a boost of confidence and no longer feel the need to hide your smile from your friends and family.
Many patients choose to undergo cosmetic procedures because they are self-conscious about the way their teeth look. If you too feel embarrassed or ashamed of your teeth, give Dr. Steve Kim DDS a call today and let us help you find the right procedures to correct your smile.
Types of Cosmetic Procedures
There are a variety of cosmetic procedures that can be performed and each one serves a different purpose. It is important to keep in mind that just because you want to have a procedure done, does not mean that you should.
Some patients are not good candidates for one or more procedures, so it is important to discuss this with Dr. Kim when you come in.
Below, we will go over some of the most popular types of cosmetic procedures.
1. Teeth Whitening
If you have yellowed or stained teeth, you probably do not want to smile too much out in public. Fortunately, there is a solution and it is whitening. At Dr. Steve Kim DDS, we offer the Iveri Tooth Whitening system to whiten your teeth up to eight shades lighter.
Stains appear on your teeth for a number of reasons including smoking, eating tomato sauces, and even drinking coffee. These stains do not simply lift right off of the enamel. Teeth whitening treatments will remove and lift the stains off of your teeth. Treatment only takes about 20 minutes in office.
Dental implants are a popular cosmetic procedure that deals with tooth replacement. Whether you need to replace your teeth due to tooth loss, severe decay, or trauma, implants are a great way to go.
The implants themselves are made from small titanium posts that will be surgically implanted into your jaw. Once your jaw has healed, crowns will be affixed to the top of the posts.
This type of cosmetic procedure is used when you want to cover up any stains, cracks, or fractures in the tooth. The bonding is made from a resin like material and placed onto the tooth. Typically, patients who are lacking enamel will have bonding placed on the tooth to help protect the tooth.
Veneers are another cosmetic procedure that provide you with a beautiful smile. Veneers are made from porcelain and are cemented to your teeth. They easily cover up any cracks, breaks, and stains on your teeth. They are also used to straighten your smile and fill in any gaps.
There are some orthodontic procedures that are considered cosmetic and they are not required to be done. For instance, patients can choose to participate in treatment programs such as Invisalign to help straighten their smile. These cosmetic procedures are not required, but they are elective.
Crowns are an option for most patients and they work in a couple of different ways. Crowns are typically placed over teeth to protect them after dental decay or after root canal treatments. In addition to protection, they also help cover up any flaws or damage that a tooth has sustained.
How Long Does Treatment Take?
The length of treatment will depend on the type of procedure you are having done. Dr. Kim will sit down with you and let you know how many treatments or the length of treatment you will need.
Since each procedure differs in length and recovery time, it is important that you plan accordingly. For example, dental implants can take up to six months for your jawbone to heal once the posts are in place. This means that you will not have crowns attached until after this time period has passed.
Another great example is with the orthodontic option. Some patients will need to receive treatment for the entire six to nine months, but other patients may only need to wear the aligner or braces for a few months.
Risks Associated with Cosmetic Dentistry
There are risks associated with all procedures and it is important to know what the risks are before you have the treatment done. Dr. Steve Kim will sit down with you and go over all relevant risks and side effects to make sure that you are aware of them beforehand.
No matter what procedure you have performed, you want to make sure you take all prescribed medications as directed and report any problems or worsening of symptoms to our office.

Richard SHorrible Dentist Avoid Kristen kimShe did all my teeth bad on purpose. If you think this is okay go ahead and have her practice on you too.She was taking off a crown and in the process twisted the temp crown instead of taking it directly out. We heard a loud crack and she smile I let her know my teeth was now pulsating. This seemed to make her and the nurse very happy. I will post the pictures of the crowns if they fall off Or the tooth is indeed cracked. I still am going to sue
